2009-2010 Season

November 6 ~ Dukes of Dixieland

The DUKES of Dixieland blow traditional jazz and Dixieland into the 21st Century, weaving strands of pop, gospel, and country with authentic New Orleans sounds. More than 32 years of tradition stand behind today's Dukes as they step forward with a sound that is durable and flexible, as jazz is meant to be. The DUKES of Dixieland - strong tradition, new ground, great sounds.

The DUKES have worn their New Orleans jazz heritage proudly as globe-trotting jazz ambassadors from the heart of the Big Easy. They are the oldest continuing Dixieland jazz band and have sold out such venues as The Hollywood Bowl, the Kennedy Center and the Smithsonian, to name but a few. Bright and brassy or smooth and dark as cane syrup, the DUKES bring a time-honored authenticity to all of the hits of Dixie's yesteryear. For more info...

January 22 ~Corky Siegel Chamber Blues

Walking the line between Beethoven and B.B. King and armed with the creative genius and instrumental prowess that have defined his career for nearly four decades, Corky has pioneered an original, genre-busting Chamber blues - a fresh, innovative sound capturing the sparkling qualities of classical music merged with the emotional melodic style of blues, all within an intimate chamber setting.

Under Corky's lead, The West End String Quartet and percussionist Frank Donaldson complete the Chamber Blues Band. Described by critics internationally as: remarkable, astonishing, extraordinary, hot, mesmerizing, joyous and outrageous fun, their music and concerts have delighted diverse audiences globally and their genre-defying presentations are drawing new and old concert-goers to places they have never been before. February13 ~ Intersection Trio

Soulful expression, instrumental virtuosity, playful banter - these are the hallmarks of an INTERSECTION event, in which the realms of concert and popular music are seamlessly dovetailed.

The typical INTERSECTION program is an irresistible blend of classical, jazz, Latin, Broadway/film music, vital new commissions, and the group's own original compositions and arrangements.

With its versatility, its engaging stage manner, and its unique mixing of trio, duo and solo formats, INTERSECTION has won a large and avid international fan base: in Japan alone, each of the group's numerous CDs and DVDs has shot to the top of the classical and crossover charts. For more info...

February 26 ~ Thomas Pandolfi Pianist - Into the Night with Gershwin

American pianist Thomas Pandolfi is emerging as a prodigious virtuoso who excels in reviving the core repertoire from the golden age of pianism. Praised for his interesting and innovative programming, his recitals regularly include works by Busoni, Godowsky, Dohnanyi and Chasins, and his orchestral appearances often feature concerti by Paderewski, MacDowell, Moszkowski and Anton Rubinstein.

The young pianist's career has already included performances with such European orchestras as The George Enescu Philharmonic, The Moravian Philharmonic, and The National Philharmonic of the Republic of Moldova, as well as the American symphony orchestras of Mississippi, Cedar Rapids, Asheville, Princeton, and San Angelo, to name but a few. Following a performance of Liszt's Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Asheville Symphony, The Asheville Citizen-Times remarked, "Pandolfi is a standout among today's young pianists, demonstrating a great technician's grace, finesse and polish...his virtuosity and strength might have had some believing that Liszt himself had taken over the keyboard."

In the "Pops" genre, Thomas is also considered a leading interpreter of the works of George Gershwin.  A graduate of The Juilliard School, Pandolfi earned both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees as a scholarship student. For more info...

From Bach to Bacharach, Proteus 7 breathes new life into chamber music with their dynamic, creative and free-ranging approach to styles and repertoire. Members of Proteus 7 perform on Broadway and record for television and motion pictures. They have been nominated for Emmy and Grammy awards, and have played with major symphony orchestras throughout the world including the Boston Symphony and Boston Pops, the Cleveland Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic and the Philadelphia Orchestra. Their programs are as diverse as their individual talents, balancing intricate works of Baroque masters in tandem with contemporary classical and jazz counterparts, plus everything in between.

These seven players bring the tonal palette of a symphony orchestra, the excitement of a big band and the intimacy of a chamber ensemble to the concert stage. Together they combine their unique talents and artistry to create an extraordinary new sound. For more info...
